Rockets

The boys had a great time making rockets for pack meeting. Logan decided on a "Sprite" rocket, and Dillon's said Nasa Dillon on it. It was all fun and games, until Logan's rocket kept getting stuck half way through, and only finished one set. He is super competitive, so this was a good lesson for him on being a good sport. Dillon won one set, and ended up placing I think 4th or 5th overall. They love this type of activity. And I am sure Camden will as well, when he is old enough. He wanted to get into the action, too and gets devastated when he can't compete, too. Five more years Cam! :) Fun night for all the future engineers, and rocket scientists. (I should note that the boy who won the competition has a dad who actually is a rocket scientist- so apparently that does come in handy.) :)

Cupcake wars

I didn't take a single picture! We went down to our friends, the Godfrey's house last weekend, to celebrate Todd's BIG birthday. Rachel hadn't told him that we were coming, so we showed up at the door and he looked pretty surprised. She had picked up dinner for us, and we all ate- and then moved onto the main event. Cupcake wars! My kids had such a great time! Rachel had picked surprise ingredients that described or had something to do with Todd. We divided into groups and picked our 3 items. Matt and Todd's group had decided to do a St. Patrick's theme, since he was born on St. Patty's Day. They chose Dr. Pepper, Andes mints, and Milano mint cookies as their items. We chose butterfinger, butterscotch pudding, and won ton wrappers as our items. The pudding, and butterfingers were mixed into the cake mix, and cooked. Our frosting was buttercream, with sprinked butterfingers on top. It had a garnish of fried won ton wrappers in the shape of a fan (he went to Japan on his mission) and it was sprinkled with powdered sugar. Rachel had though of everything, and everything and even had her brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, who are both food scientists, to be the judges. Both of the cupcakes turned out great! I couldn't even choose who I liked best, so I'm glad I didn't have a vote. :) I think the deciding factor was the won ton wrapper with powdered sugar though. What a fun night! Now my kids are already asking when we can do it again, so we may need a rematch!

Basketball

The boys have been in basketball the past few months, and their last games were on Sat. I actually like to watch basketball, more than most sports. This season though- we've been ready for the last game for a long time! The boys said they had really wanted to play, but neither of them were super excited about practicing with their teams. We have always been with groups from the neighborhood, but for some reason, neither of my boys were with the neighborhood teams. Because they weren't with friends, and because both of their teams...how do I put it nicely....well, they were pretty bad..., they were both ready for the last game as well. Logan's practices were on Fri. nights at 7:00, and games were on Saturdays. For that reason alone, I am glad it's over so Matt and I can actually go on a date. It seems like it's been a long time! :) Anyway- I think they are way more excited for soccer and lacrosse, which are both starting in the next few weeks. So maybe they will want to play again next year, and we can have a more successful season- or maybe not.

Cute boy...and his cat

Camden wants a cat so bad. He's not getting one. Ever. I am super allergic, so that's a good excuse. He loves anything to do with a cat, and sleeps with at least 2 cats every night. Look at this cute boy and his kitty.
Makes me almost wish I could get him one.....Almost :)

My daughter is aging me

Morgan came home with big news. A boy asked her to "go out" with him. Apparently that means will you be my girlfriend- but you don't actually go out with them. (Yes- I had to ask.) She said she told him, "Um, no thanks." While I'm hugely relieved that she didn't say yes, I feel bad for the poor boy. He probably feels terrible. Oh well- I am sure this is the first of many broken hearts. It is hard to believe my daughter is old enough to like boys, and be liked by boys. I'm feeling my age today!

Stake Play

Our stake decided to do a stake play involving all of the youth in the stake, instead of having a youth conference this year. We have been practicing at mutual nights for the past couple of months. It has been a HUGE undertaking! Not for me- but for the director and cultural events coordinator. I would go to rehearsals and think "Wow- I am not sure this is really ever going to come together, unless there's a miracle." I know I'm not the only one who thought that. Even the dress rehearsal was pretty scary. However, we went the first night and I was absolutely amazed. A miracle did take place! The whole thing went off without a hitch. I could not keep the tears in, as the youth in our stake portrayed modern day situations, and likened them to stories in the Book of Mormon. The best part in the whole play was the very last song. It makes me tear up just thinking about it now. One girl started singing "The Spirit of God." Then another girl came in, and another. Finally the entire cast came into the regional center and filled the stages and aisles singing it. It was awesome to see so many good, strong youth singing that powerful song. We had over 300 kids participate in it, and it really was amazing. Morgan was in thevocal company, and also sang, "You're not alone", with a small group, too. I don't even have pictures though, since cameras weren't allowed, and before the event was too crazy to get pictures. A professional videographer came and filmed and took pictures, so hopefully I will be able to get some eventually. What a neat experience for the kids, and the leaders!

My mad sewing skills

Just kidding- because I've got no skills. I don't even know how to follow a pattern. I guess about what the shape of something should be then just start cutting and sewing. Camden wants to dress up but really we have no boy dress up clothes. I am fine with him liking Dora, but I really would rather he not dress up like Cinderella. I thought I'd try a cape and see how that worked for him. It's even reversible.

He loved it! He has worn it a ton- and looks so cute in it.

FHE at iFly and rock climbing

For Valentines day we had given the kids "coupons" to go and do indoor skydiving, and rock climbing. They were so excited to do this, and had a ton of fun. Dillon was not a huge fan of the skydiving, though. He has always HATED the wind. Even when he was a newborn, he hated it. (Living in Oklahoma- where the wind comes rushing down the plains...is not a great place to be, for someone who hates the wind.) I'm not sure he would go sky diving again, but Logan and Morgan LOVED it! Logan is so light, that he was a complete natural. Morgan had done it one time before, and was a pro by the end of her time, too. Afterwards they all went rock climbing and loved it! Even Camden did a little climbing. What a fun FHE!
