Matt suggested going to New York for our anniversary. So of course I jumped because, first of all, of course I would like a weekend alone with my husband anywhere! But second of all- its's New York and I love visiting New York. We left on Thurs. and were supposed to come home on Sunday. I say supposed to, because that is not exactly what happened. I seem to have all the luck when traveling and Hurricane Irene must have heard I was visiting. Because of Irene, our flight was cancelled and we couldn't get on another flight until Tues. I know two extra days in New York seems great, however NOTHING was open. I mean nothing! Not even McDonald's in Times Square. We walked and walked and walked- but ended up back in our hotel room for the better part of two days.
While we were visiting, we saw "Catch Me if you Can." What a fun show! We really liked it. The next night we saw "Spiderman." We had heard how cool it was, and decided to see that as well. The sets and stunts were really amazing, however it still wasn't my favorite show I've seen in NY. It entertained, but I don't think I'd see it again and again, like I've seen some others! All Broadway shows were cancelled for the next 2 days. Then Monday was dark for most shows, so we didn't get the chance to see any others.
However, we went to Chinatown and shopped. We also met up with some neighborhood friends, who were there as well, and ate lunch in Little Italy. We went to a couple of movies, shopped some more, ate at many amazing restaurants, including Serendipity III. One of my favorites! We also took a food tour that our friends had told us about. There are many different ones that you can go one, but the one we chose was the Greenwich Village tour. It takes you around the city, stopping at several "Mom and Pop" type places and you sample the food, hear the history, etc. We saw a commercial for Amazon being filmed, saw the "Friends" apartment, and learned about the "most narrow house in NYC" was on the tour. (9 and 1/2 feet wide- just sold for $4.2 million! Yikes!) We went to Central Park, to Rockefeller Plaza, ground zero and the World Trade Center site, and the WTC museum. There are probably other things I'm not thinking of, but we had a great time. It was so fun to spend one on one time together without a million little interruptions. (Besides the hurricane.)
